Priya is a South Indian non-binary trans person living and working on unceded Wurundjeri Country. They have been a presenter on the 3CR Thursday Breakfast show, an alternative current affairs program, since early 2020. As part of the Thursday Breakfast crew, their contributions have focused on issues of Indigenous rights, higher education and prison abolition. Priya is also currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne which engages notions of sovereignty and the intelligibility of Indigenous peoples' political claim making in so-called Australia.

About this Speaker

Priya is a South Indian non-binary trans person living and working on unceded Wurundjeri Country. They have been a presenter on the 3CR Thursday Breakfast show, an alternative current affairs program, since early 2020. As part of the Thursday Breakfast crew, their contributions have focused on issues of Indigenous rights, higher education and prison abolition. Priya is also currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne, titled "Listening, Race and the Australian Media", which engages notions of sovereignty and the intelligibility of Indigenous peoples' political claim making in so-called Australia. Their research includes a significant emphasis on media representations of the Invasion Day 2020 rally, looking at the role of various media sources in perpetuating or challenging dominant political narratives about the 26th of January.
