About this Speaker

Ian is a Yorta Yorta man who has spent more than three decades in the public sector overseeing major policy and strategic reforms for both government and community organisations.

He has held senior roles at both federal and Victorian state government levels, including as Executive Director of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria and Assistant Director of Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. He also holds a number of leadership positions at various organisations, including as a Board member or chair of First Nations Foundation, Koorie Heritage Trust, Australian Red Cross, National Trust of Australia (Vic), Aboriginal Housing Victoria and the Indigenous Community Volunteers.

Ian is widely admired for his big picture thinking and his considerable experience working with people from a vast array of backgrounds, managing complex and sensitive relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

He is a passionate advocate for community media which he believes plays a crucial role in building a stronger, fairer, more inclusive and cohesive society.

Ian joined the Community Broadcasting Foundation Board as President in July 2019
